For five days every year, Diekirch attracts thousands of beer lovers for its annual folk festival “Al Dikkrich”.
Since 1968, the “Old Diekirch”
festival has been taking place around the beautiful 11th century St Laurent church, where clubs and associations set up stalls to sell food and, naturally, Diekirch beer.
There will be live music on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday; while on Monday there is the annual card game competition of “Kontramitt”, usually one of the quieter nights. Friday and Tuesday are expected to be the most popular, and the streets are often heaving when the weather is dry.
The festival has become so popular that it has spread through the rest of town, and cafés in the pedestrian high street are also always brimming with people. Thankfully, this town has its own brewery, so there is no risk of this festival running out of beer!
