American songwriter Brian Christinzio, aka BC Camplight, brings his new album “Deportation Blues” to de Gudde Wëllen.
The chequered career of BC Camplight makes for interesting reading. Brian Christinzio played live with members of The War On Drugs and also guested on Sharon Van Etten's album “Epic”. But a move to Manchester in England gave his solo career as BC Camplight the boost it needed when he teamed up with a bunch of locals he met in the city’s The Castle Hotel pub. He recorded 2015 album 'How To Die In The North', in his newly adopted home, but then faced deportation back to the States when he overstayed his visa.
He was later allowed to return thanks to his grandparents’ Italian heritage, but then came the Brexit referendum. A love of his adopted country, despite its treatment the immigration authorities, informs last year’s new album “Deportation Blues” and tracks like ‘I’m Desperate’.
