TNL showcases contemporary chamber opera in a special double-bill this week.
The show features Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa’s “The Raven”, based on the poem by Edgar Allen Poe and drawing analogies with analogies to Japanese Nō-Theatre. The opera was first performed in Brussels in 2012. Then comes German composer Christian Jost’s mysterious love story, “Heart Sutra”, which is set in 1930s Shanghai and based on the poem “The Love of a Falling Leaf” by Zhang Ailing.
The performance features music from the United Instruments of Lucilin and mezzo soprano Polina Artsis.
