Violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Yuja Wang are the stars in the Philharmonie’s latest “grand solistes” concert.
No strangers to the Philharmonie, both musicians are highly acclaimed in their instruments. Greek born Leonidas Kavakoswas a winner of the prestigious International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition and went on to receive prizes for his recordings of Sibelius and Mendelssohn.
Yuja Wang (photo Norbert Kniat) from Beijing was picking up acclaim and awards at an early age, and critics have praised her technique and what one called her “unfathomable dexterity”.
The programme features Leoš Janáček’s sonata for violin and piano, Franz Schubert’s fantasy for violin and piano, Claude Debussy’s sonata for violin and piano, and Beethoven’s violin sonata op. 30/2,
