The annual fund-raising concert in aid of the Red Cross is a classy gala evening.
Pianist Richard Egarr (photo Marco Borggreve) conducts the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg in a programme featuring popular works by three great names of classical music. It opens with the overture from Rossini’s “Semiramide”, which was based on Voltaire's tragedy “Semiramis”. Eggar then takes to the keyboard for a performance of Mozart’s piano concerto no. 24. The programme wraps up with Beethoven’s third symphony, the “Eroica”.
All proceeds from the evening--sales from tickets, drinks and food--goes to the Luxembourg Red Cross’s programme to support emergency shelters and post-emergency shelters in Africa.
The concert is being recorded for broadcast on Radio 100,7 on 11 April.
