The Cinémathèque hosts a retrospective by one of the true pioneers of American independent cinema.
Already underway, the John Cassavetes programme features around half a dozen of the master’s films this month. They include “A Child Is Waiting” starring Judy Garland and Burt Lancaster, jazz era love story “Too Late Blues” which helped make a cult star of playmate Stella Stevens.
Of course, Cassavetes is indelibly linked with his wife, the great Gena Rowlands, who stars with Seymour Cassel in his take on a romantic comedy, “Minnie and Moskovitz” as well as in “Faces”, which is shown after a ciné-conference on 15 January. Another Cassavetes regular, Ben Gazzara stars with Peter Falk in “Husbands” (photo Columbia Pictures).
