The Rotondes continues Congés Annulés, its summer season of concerts for people who stick around for the holidays. Delano has tickets to give away for three gigs.
Each year, the season shines a light on emerging artists and this year will be no different with a motley band of international names on the cusp of international stardom playing up until 25 August.
In addition to gigs, the line-up explodes off the stage to include visual experiences, exhibitions, pop-up stores, beer yoga, a roller disco and live cinema.
Among the acts to look out for are New Zealand’s Aldous Harding (pictured) on 15 August, a self-described “gothic folk” singer-songwriter who is renowned for her stage presence and captivating performances.
On 17 August, quirkily named Perth trio Methyl Ethel, whose work has been described as “dream pop for insomniacs” (Pitchfork) and “spooky psychedelic rock” (NME) breeze into town. Interesting fact: the group were named after one of the band members’ father’s work with fiberglass, using methyl ethyl ketone.
Belgian band Wuman, from Tournai, are worth checking out when they bring their electro-pop, afrobeat sound to the Rotondes on 18 August. Their atmospheric music is all the more engaging for the fact it is overlaid with photography, literature and cinema.
