The first was installed on the N8, between Saeul and Brouch and the second on the CR118 between Angelsberg and Mersch. A third speed camera is expected to be operational in the first week of June, a sustainable development ministry spokesperson told Paperjam. This latter camera will be on the A4 at the Raemerich roundabout, the site of a number of serious accidents in recent years, including a crash in which two people died in June 2016.

All the cameras are on roads with a 70 km/h limit.

Fixed speed cameras were first introduced on Luxembourg’s roads in 2016. During their first year in operation, they recorded 307,590 speeding motorists. The measure was introduced to reduce speeding and the risk of serious accidents. Infrastructure minister François Bausch said in April 2018 that the number of road fatalities was falling, with 25 road deaths on Luxembourg’s roads in 2017, compared to 45 in 2013.
