The number of road fatalities rose from a low of 25 in 2017 to 36 in 2018, minister of transport François Bausch revealed at a press conference on Friday. Among them were 3 pedestrians, 3 cyclists, 9 motorcyclists and 1 quad rider.
A further 273 people suffered serious injury as a result of traffic accidents. 10 of the fatalities were the result of a vehicle hitting a tree and a further 4 from a collision with some other sort of fixed object. 16 of the deaths were due to excessive speeding and only 3 were caused by a driver over the blood/alcohol limit.
