The most frequent reason for such accidents resulting from excessive speeding (44%), followed by mistakes made when switching lanes or overtaking (22%), following a vehicle too closely (12%) and crossing a safety line (10%). Alcohol played a role in 3% of total accidents (compared to 17% of similar accidents involving four-wheel vehicles). 

According to the report, the worst accidents occurred in the northern and eastern parts of the country, with 47% involving non-Luxembourg residents. Around one-third of all accidents occurred between June through August, and about half occurred during the weekends (Friday-Sunday). 

The average age of motorcyclist victims was 40.
