Responding to a parliamentary question, infrastructure minister François Bausch said the airport had been asked to conduct identity checks at entrances to secure zones. This, he said was a response to the global security threat and a recommendation from security specialists.

“To avoid long queues caused by the additional check of boarding cards and identity cards, the airport’s management decided to increase the number of security guards from one to two,” Bausch wrote.

The minister was responding to a parliamentary question from MP Claudia Dall’Agnol, who quoted union OGBL in saying that the airport had undergone a “fundamental department security reorganisation” which involved sub-contracting the work out to agency staff. Bausch insisted that this was not the case and that no agents were replaced, “but existing staff numbers were reinforced”.

He clarified that agency staff were only used during periods when footfall fluctuated, for example during the holidays. “Lux-Airport met with staff representatives to limit the sub-contracting of work where possible and move to recruit 40 security agents in 2018”, the minister said.
