In a communiqué from the Economy Ministry it was explained:

“The Luxembourg-America business award is presented every two years to an American business established in Luxembourg in recognition of the close economic relations between the two countries.”

Amazon is a global player in e-commerce and cloud computing, with more than 1,500 employees at its European head office in Luxembourg. It is the first service provider to receive the Luxembourg-America Business Award since the initiative was launched in 1999.

Previous winners have been the Goodyear Rubber & Tire Company, Dupont, Guardian Industries, Avery Dennison Corporation, Delphi Corporation, Husky Injection Molding Systems, Airtech Advanced Materials Group and Ampacet Corporation.

At the award ceremony, Schneider said:

“Amazon has always been at the forefront of technological innovation and new approaches to the customer experience. Luxembourg and Amazon share a common philosophy--a passion for innovation and excellence.”

At this ninth edition of the Luxembourg-America Business Award, the University of Miami (Ohio) also received an “Honorary Business Award” in recognition of its “excellence in creating links between the United States and the Grand Duchy in the academic and economic world.”
