Under the deal, Amazon Prime Video gains global rights to “Black Spot” outside Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. The show will roll out exclusively to Amazon Prime Video subscribers across more than 200 countries and territories - except in France and Switzerland, where rights are non-exclusive - starting in 2018.

Created by Mathieu Missoffe, “Black Spot” was directed by Thierry Poiraud and Julien Despaux. The series takes place in Villefranche, a small isolated town in the middle of a gigantic forest, where Laurene Weiss, a strong local cop who was kidnapped 20 years ago, is investigating a crime that leads her to find details on her own abduction.

“Black Spot” world premiered this year at the Berlin Film Festival and opened the European Film Markets’s Berlinale Special Series. The mystery series is produced by Ego Productions and was commissioned by France Televisions. It premiered on French public broadcaster France 2 in April.

“With ‘Black Spot’ we offer audiences worldwide the chance to enjoy a truly great show from France. International productions like this enrich the programming of Amazon Prime Video, make it more diverse and exciting for audiences globally,” said Christoph Schneider, Amazon Video’s director of content acquisition in Europe.

“We are thrilled to complete the sale of ‘Black Spot’ to Amazon Prime Video, which will give wide international exposure to this premium French production,” said Valerie Vleeschhouwer, VP in charge of Groupe AB’s distribution and co-production.

“Black Spot” will be dubbed in English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
