Neither Metz Métropole nor Amazon have yet confirmed the information, but the Republican Lorrain announced on Tuesday that the construction of a European logistics platform on the former Frescaty airbase is being considered. It said that the project was being handled by the local communities and state.

“On 20 hectares, this distribution base would include a warehouse of about 55,000 m² and should generate nearly 2,000 jobs during high activity, that is to say from July to December,” the newspaper wrote.

The council of Metz Métropole mentioned at a meeting on Monday night the establishment of a “big company” in the vicinity, without revealing a name, the Republican Lorrain reported.

The airbase, which is located 7 kilometres south-west of Metz, began life as a zeppelin field in the early twentieth century while Metz was still annexed by Germany.
