Around 25,000 people die every year in the EU from infections caused by antibiotics-resistant bacteria Pexels

To help combat the issue, Luxembourg plans to invest €2m over five years through its first national antibiotic plan.

On Tuesday, MPs discussed the plan which will form the basis of a communication strategy aimed at raising awareness among stakeholders treating the human, veterinary and environmental aspects associated with the issue of antimicrobial resistance.

The proliferation of drug-resistant bacteria is mainly a result of repeated and inappropriate use of antibiotics. It places a strain on the health system--by leading to extended hospital stays and increased medical expenses.
