Sam Steen was inspired to create the “Lux Lingo” podcast by his own desire to improve his abilities in speaking Luxembourgish, and by his love of podcasts. He has employed the help of Luxembourg language teacher Tania Hoffmann to produce a series of 10-minute shows focusing on key words and phrases.

Sam is keen to point out that the podcast is not a substitute for taking language classes. But he reckons that they will be useful not only to beginners in learning Luxembourgish, but also to those already familiar with the basics of the language. “I find that listening to the phrases while walking the dog and cooking in the kitchen makes them really stick. We also set the listeners a challenge to go and use the phrases they have learned,” he explains. So the impact of the lesson can be immediate. “It’s more of an audio phrasebook that people can use in certain scenarios.”

The first episode was released on Monday and is available for free. Further episodes will be released twice a week, each Monday and Friday. A subscription to the podcast will cost €10 per month. Using a special code via the Patreon website, the podcasts will be automatically downloaded to users’ smartphone, allowing easy access to each episode.
