- The Autobahn will become tolled for foreign drivers starting in 2019. Using German motorways will cost between €2.50 and €25 for 10 days or €7 and €50 for 2 months, depending on the engine size and environmental performance of the vehicle. A network of cameras will scan number plates to catch drivers who have not purchased a pass.
- Only 415 out of 550 freshly available taxi licenses have been issued. The government opened up a new class of cab permits two months ago. Candidates have until 15 June to apply.
- Luxembourg is home to 35% of assets under management in European “responsible” investment funds. That is according to a study conducted by KPMG for the Alfi trade group and Luxflag certification agency. Between 2014 and 2016, the assets in European responsible investment funds grew 26.6%, to €476bn.
- ArcelorMittal and the development agency Fonds Kirchberg have unveiled the shortlist of architecture firms in the running to build the steelmaker’s new headquarters in Kirchberg. Eight firms submitted proposals, but only Foster + Partners, Rem Koolhaas OMA and Wilmotte & Associés remain in the running.
- An advisor to the EU’s top court has issued a preliminary opinion in favour of the Cactus supermarket chain in its trademark dispute. Cactus previously contested a decision by the European Union Intellectual Property Office to let another company use the brand name “Cactus of Peace Cactus de la Paz” for a range of gardening products. Cactus won that case and the EUIPO appealed before the EU General Court. Nils Wahl, an advocate general at the EU court in Kirchberg, sided with Cactus. The opinion is not final. A panel of judges will not consider the case, although they often reach the same conclusion.
