Xavier Bettel was one of five non-American political figures featured as part of People magazine’s annual “Sexiest man alive” issue.

The PM “became the first serving leader in the European Union to marry someone of the same sex in 2015 when wed his civil partner, Gauther Destenay,” the article said.

Also on the list: the prime ministers of Italy, Canada and Greece--Mateo Renzi, Justin Trudeau and Alexis Tsipras, respectively--and Spain’s King Felipe VI.

At last count, the celebrity and human interest magazine had a weekly circulation of more than 3.4m print copies.

The “Sexist man alive” title is slightly misleading; the issue actually features 144 men categorised in several lists, such as sexiest chefs and sexiest dog owners.

This year’s edition was published on 28 November.
