The palace said in a statement on Monday that the grand duke had asked Bettel and his cabinet to remain in office while the new government is formed.

This is all standard practice following parliamentary elections.

Grand Duke Henri will now meet for consultative talks with Mars di Bartolomeo, speaker of parliament, Georges Wivenes, head of the Council of State (Luxembourg’s pseudo-upper chamber), and with the political party leaders.

Following that, the grand duke will name either an “informateur” to broker coalition talks or a “formateur” who will be directly tasked with forming a government.
