Gezza is a fresh new face on the Luxembourg music scene Claire Asselborn.

Gezza, real name Sophie Rolandi, began writing at a young age. “I love to write my own lyrics and link my emotions with music,” she tells Delano. For ‘Fall In Love’, the teenager teamed up with Luxembourg-based producer Navajo after he discovered her on YouTube. The video was directed by Cedric Letsch, fresh from his triumph at the Luxembourg Video Clip Awards for his work on Austinn’s ‘Olivia’.

Gezza, who has Italian roots but was born and raised in Luxembourg, says she wants to reflect how the “new kids” feel and live. “The lyrics are profoundly challenging, music is like my shield. I like to give deep nuanced meanings, reflect on my inner self and get positive energy out of it.”

Although ‘Fall In Love’ is unabashedly poppy, Gezza says that the likes of alternative acts Bon Iver, Daughter and Bilderbuch are an inspiration. She explains that she also wants to make music that she can dance to, and forget about what the words mean. “It’s about finding the right mixture between my emotions and letting them all out.”

She adapted the Gezza moniker from the nickname given to her by friends. “I like it because it's fresh, out of the ordinary and kind of expresses my lifestyle.” Keen to perform in front of an audience, for now Gezza is taking things step by step. “More songs are in the making, and I am really looking forward to release more of them.”
