Some 20 people were arrested on Tuesday as police in France, Belgium and Luxembourg cracked down on international drug trade in the bodybuilding scene. L’Essentiel reports that the French judiciary has confirmed the arrests took place simultaneously in the Rhône, in the Paris region, in Nice, Bordeaux and Mulhouse, as well as in Belgium and Luxembourg.

In addition to the arrests, approximately €134,000 in cash was seized alongside anabolic steroids and growth hormones.

However, the grand ducal police and the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office were unable to provide further details.

L’Essentiel says the case stemmed from the interception by customs officers at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport in September 2016 of a package containing anabolic products. They had been bound from Thailand to an individual domiciled in the Rhône region.

Investigating authorities then identified several bodybuilders in Lyon engaged in trafficking steroids and also tracked down a French lab and two holding companies in Luxembourg implicated in the case
