Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps continues to attract rave notices for her lead role opposite Daniel Day Lewis in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread”. The latest review by Michael Phillips in the “Chicago Tribune” even mentions her nationality. “Vicky Krieps, is from Luxembourg, and she is excellent, at once emotionally open and a master concealer when the central relationship in the film demands it.” The Telegraph had last week even made a splash headline about the “unknown Luxembourger” above a story recounting how Krieps landed the role.

 

Luxembourg group invests in Kenya

Luxembourg-based bitumen dealer West European Group is setting up a bitumen manufacturing plant in Shimoni, south eastern Kenya. The company is quoted by “Construction Kenya” as saying it will spend around 41 million euros to set up the factory that will be operational within five to seven years. When operational, the plant will make Kenya a net exporter of bitumen for the first time.

 

Luka Modric had Luxembourg shell company

Real Madrid’s Croatian star Luka Modric is the latest footballer to be involved in controversy surrounding image rights companies in Luxembourg. According to Spanish football paper “Marca”, Modric is accused of avoiding tax of around 870,000 euros on revenue from his image rights in 2013 and 2014 via shell company Ivano sarl which has its seat in Luxembourg.

 

Randy Evans renominated as ambassador to Luxembourg

The Atlanta lawyer’s nomination had expired in December, even though he had been through the process of appearing before, and winning the approval, of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He has now been renominated by president Donald Trump. Delano reported on the nomination on Monday, but Law.com’s “Daily report” has also taken up the story. Evans must now get the unanimous consent of the full Senate before he is formally appointed.
