Previously, the British curator was part of the team at the Bonner Kunstverein in Bonn, Germany, where she had the role of director since 2015.

Cotton also had served as senior curator of Firstsite, based in Colchester (UK), where she developed an international programme of group and solo exhibitions.

According to Suzanne Cotter, who joined as Mudam director in 2018, Cotton “brings to Mudam a breadth and depth of curatorial experience. Her engagement with contemporary art, its histories and her profound commitment to artists and publics alike will contribute greatly to the museum’s ambition to make accessible the art of our time to the largest number, within Europe, and beyond.”

Cotton’s appointment was the result of an international search comprised of jury members including Cotter, as well as Danièle Wagener (2 Musées de la Ville de Luxembourg), Emma Lavigne (Centre Pompidou-Metz) and Annick Spautz (Mudam).
