According to an article on Paperjam, Simon’s retirement will take place earlier than planned (his mandate should have continued until the end of April 2019) and the finance ministry will soon be advertising for his replacement. 

Simon spent the vast majority of his career at the CSSF and his announcement is the latest in a series of senior departures. Simone Delcourt, head of funds supervision, will retire in September this year and Jean-Marc Goy, council for international affairs and Nadia Manzari, head of innovation, payments, markets infrastructure and governance also recently unexpectedly stepped-down.
