Luxembourg will open a high performance training centre (HPTRC) for elite athletes at the Coque leisure centre Delano archive

The centre will be an essential element of the soon-to-be created Luxembourg Institute for High Performance in Sports. According to a press release from the Coque, it will provide “specific, innovative and scientific equipment alongside services such as performance diagnostics, video analysis and recovery measures”, among others.

It will serve primarily Luxembourg’s elite athletes who are affiliated to Luxembourg federations and the Luxembourg Olympic Sporting Committee. But it will also be accessible to private clients, to help cover operating costs.

The athletes will be able to benefit from the leisure centre’s existing sports facilities and services, as well as a cryotherapy room, which will be installed. The range of facilities offered by the HPTRC is expected to be widened, to include physiotherapy, dietetics, sports medicine and sports psychology, for example.

The transformation will be carried out in two phases: the first phase will see the creation of a physical training room, indoor running track, high performance judo area, high performance training pool and performance diagnostics and video analysis facilities. In a second phase, the centre will implement a new fitness room and develop the recovery and relaxation centre. The infrastructure is paid for by the Coque itself but its operating costs will be funded by the sports ministry and by private clients accessing the facility.

The Coque leisure centre’s swimming pool, which has been closed since 3 July for works, is to reopen on 9 October. Work included the replacement of the 25-metre pool by a stainless steel pool and a sprucing up of the underground changing rooms.
