The measure is included in bill 7173, a five-year plan investing up to €120m in sports infrastructure from 2018 to 2022.

Of that figure, €6.2m has been earmarked for the creation of motor skills rooms.

Once the bill is approved, successful applicants will be able get 35% of the construction costs subsidised, provided the total cost does not exceed €750,000.

In a press release published on Tuesday, parliament explained the measure would encourage children to do more physical activity and help them learn to move freely from a young age.
