There were 550 cases of illegal activity logged on the bus, tram and rail network in 2018. The numbers were 695 in 2017 and 607 in 2016.
The figures were revealed by the Green party transport minister François Bausch in response to a parliamentary question submitted by the ADR MP Fernand Kartheiser, published on 17 April.
Kartheiser’s question was prompted by two “brutal assaults” on CFL personnel in separate incidents on 16 and 17 March.
Bausch said this week that in 2018 there were:
- 255 assaults on public transport staff
- 43 assaults on “third parties (for example, passengers)”
- 93 cases of “improper behaviour”
- 113 criminal offenses
- 46 cases of vandalism
Only a small proportion of those incidents resulted in a formal police complaint being filed: 33 (out of the 550).
Bausch also said there were 424 video surveillance cameras at train stations and stops, covering about 80% of passenger traffic.
