The draft bill, agreed by the cabinet on Friday 2 February, is set to introduce some “technical adaptations” concerning the documents needed to apply for citizenship.

A press release stated that the government wants to “fill a legislative void and enhance legal certainty”.

The draft law would require applicants to provide a copy of their criminal record from where they lived previously.

The bill also provides more precise rules on changing first and family names.
