The DP mayor Lydie Polfer presented the detailed coalition agreement to the full council on Monday 4 December.

Most projects, agreed by the previous DP-Green coalition, will be continued and executed. Examples include building new housing in Bonnevoie, Belair, Merl, Cloche d’Or, Pulvermühl, Kirchberg and Weimershof, which will create 6,000 units.

In order to fast track procedures, a roundtable will be organised, bringing together key stakeholders, including communal services, water management services, environment ministry, highways department, post office, Creos energy utility and real estate developers.

Many ideas floated by several parties, such as redeveloping the Villeroy & Boch site in Mühlenbach, Portes de Hollerich and on route d’Arlon, will also be included in a new urban development plan.

Mobility

The CSV has managed to put more focus in the coalition programme on car use, by including the renovation and extension of underground parking, a study on parking in the capital, and optimising the red lights to improve the flow of traffic.

Security

The new coalition has also emphasised the issue of security, which entails lobbying the government to have more police presence on the streets of Luxembourg city.

Tanson, Angel: nothing new

Both Sam Tanson (Déi Gréng), who was first alderwoman from 2013 to 2017, and Marc Angel (LSAP), criticised the lack of new elements in the programme.

Serge Wilmes (CSV) had argued there would never be a “tabula rasa”, but Tanson said in an interview could not find any elements from the CSV election manifesto in the final programme.

Polfer said that they were “not in a revolution, but an evolution”, and that “it is difficult to implement all of this”; Angel responded that old projects were dusted off and taken out of the drawers, but all of this would again disappear in the sand.
