Employee spending creates an additional 1,220 jobs in the French region of Grand Est, where the plant is located.

Altogether these 3,750 workers support a population of 10,520, most of whom live in the area just south of the Luxembourg-France border.

That’s according to figures published by France’s national statistics bureau, Insee, on 5 February.

The Cattenom plant, operated by the French utility EDF, is located 14km south of Mondorf-les-Bains. It produces about 8% of nuclear energy in France, Insee said. The facility remains unpopular in Luxembourg.
