Oleg De Dimone is an Italian-Russian dual national who has worked in the financial sector here in the Grand Duchy since 2005 (after moving from Rome).

On 24 May, “I started a petition to ask Ryanair to open a flight from Findel to Rome (Ciampino or Fiumicino airport),” De Dimone told Delano via Facebook messenger. “I think [it] is a quite important route for tourism, ‘city break’ weekends, business [and] Italian expats.”

The budget carrier begins service between the Grand Duchy and London and Porto on 30 October. Earlier this month Ryanair said it would add flights to Milan, Madrid and Lisbon starting in March 2017.

Luxair currently has daily direct flights between Luxembourg and Rome.

As of this writing, the petition had received 1,209 out of the 1,500 requested signatures. The document will be delivered to Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, David O’Brien, the carrier’s chief commercial officer, Johan Vanneste, CEO of Lux-Airport, and François Bausch, Luxembourg’s infrastructure minister.

The petition, “Ryanair flight Luxembourg-Roma”, will close at the end of December.
