A survey conducted by TNS Ilres found three out of four respondents used Facebook, making it the most popular social media platform in Luxembourg by a long shot. Instagram ranks second, with a third of respondents saying they used it.

The survey was carried out in April 2018 after allegations first emerged that Cambridge Analytica had harvested personal information from more than 50 million Facebook profiles without permission to build a system that could target US voters.

Whether it is a result of this breach of trust or shifting habits, Facebook usage in Luxembourg was slightly dented over the past year--some 79% of respondents said they used Facebook when the same survey was conducted in 2017.

LinkedIn rising

The survey found that one in four used Snapchat, LinkedIn and Pinterest, with LinkedIn showing the strongest growth (up from one in five in 2017).

Meanwhile, one in five respondents said they used no social media, up from 15% a year ago. The proportion of non-users rose to 50% among the over 65 age group.
