Luxembourg football legend Jeff Strasser will lead an “all stars” team to play Progrès Niederkorn in aid of the ELA Luxembourg on Saturday evening. Strasser and former FC Metz, Newcastle, Fulham, Man Utd and Everton striker Louis Saha have long supported the charity, which raises awareness of Leukodystrophy, funds research and helps the families of sufferers of the disease.

Leukodystrophy is a disorder that attacks the white matter in the brain, which can lead to inflammation in the central nervous system. The disease is fatal, although the age of onset is a key factor in how long sufferers survive. Infants are given a lifespan of 2–8 years (sometimes longer), while adults typically live more than a decade after onset.

Other former players on the all-star team include Strasser’s Luxembourg teammate Mario Mutsch, Benfica and Portugal striker Nuno Gomes, Everton and Portugal defender Nuno Valente, Chelsea and Arsenal and France centre back William Gallas, and Dortmund and Switzerland right back Philipp Degen.

The match kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Jos Haupert stadium in Niederkorn, though there are Teqball and and “Oldies Cup” competition throughout the day starting at noon. Check out the event page on the ELA website for details of the programme (in French).
