Following last year’s adventure in the Europa League, when they beat Rangers over two legs, Progrès Niederkorn have again advanced beyond the first round of qualification. Despite losing 0:1 at home to Gabala FK of Azerbaijan, the club from the south won the tie on aggregate after the 2:0 victory in Qabala last week. Steeven Joseph-Monrose scored for Gabala after 28 minutes following some nervous defending from Niederkorn. But the Luxembourg club hardened their resolve in the second half and defended well to keep the Azerbaijanis at bay. Gabala had a goal disallowed, but when Tamkin Khalilzada was sent off for the visitors on 79 minutes progress was assured for Progrès. They now face Honved of Budapest.

Fola Esch travelled to Kosovo to face FC Prishtina following a goalless match in Esch. The teams had to resort to penalties after another goalless draw and although Fola’s Cédric Sacras was the first to miss from the spot, Prishtina’s players were also not accurate and after 8 penalties each Fola won 5-4. Fola face a difficult tie against Koninklijke Racing Club Genk from Belgium next week.

FC Racing were up against it after losing their home tie 0:2 against FC Viitorul of Romania. The away leg proved too difficult for the capital city club and ended goalless after 90 minutes.
