The southern derby between Niederkorn and last season’s runner’s up Differdange was, as expected, a hard fought affair.

The home team had to withstand a siege in the final minutes of the match to defend the 1:0 lead it took in the 16th minute through Aleksandre Karapetian. Progrès has had a fantastic season so far, winning all six of its BGL league games and, of course, knocking Rangers out of the Europa League qualifying.

Second place F91 Dudelange, the defending champions, won 4:0 away at lowly Rosport. The team from the Sûre are struggling after two of its best players left for Niederkorn at the end of last season. Surprise package FC Hamm Benfica have moved up to fourth place after a 2:1 win on Friday night over 3rd placed Jeunesse Esch. Hamm came back from being 1:0 down at half time to seal victory with goals from Yao and da Veiga.

Other results included a 3.2 win for Fola over Pétange and a 1:0 win for Mondorf away at Rodange. Strassen beat Hostert 2:1 to lift themselves out of the relegation zone and Racing beat bottom club Union Esch 2:1.
