In a press statement, the government said that Belgian authorities had called for caution regarding products from Veviba abattoir in Bastogne over claims of fraudulent labelling of products.

“As a precautionary principle, these products will be removed from the market including items made from their products, knowing that most supermarkets have already removed all these products from their shelves,” the statement read.

Belgain authorities last week withdraw authorisations from Belgian meat processing plant Veviba Bastogne after fraudulent processes were discovered at the abattoir by an investigating judge. The judge visited a meat cutting plant and an industrial deep freezer. According to the Brussels Times, the judge found frozen meat was falsely dated and found over half of the products checked were non-compliant.

On Friday, the Luxembourg government first issued a statement about the fraudulent labelling of meat at the abattoir. Products from the abattoir which were delivered to Luxembourg included beef tails and minced meat. These products had been removed from sale by Friday of last week, the government said.
