Galeries Lafayette has signed a lease with developers Codic to occupy a 9,000m2 shop in Luxembourg Galeries Lafayette

The announcement, which was confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday morning, ends months of speculation over which store would occupy the prime retail location.

The building, on the corner of Grand Rue and Boulevard Royal, was initially expected to open in December 2017, a date which was shelved until June 2018. The site was previously expected to welcome Galeria Inno, which had signed a lease and then cancelled, blaming the construction delays. Galeries Lafayette, meanwhile, won't open in Luxembourg until the end of 2019, according to Le Figaro.

Founded in 1894, Galeries Lafayette is one of France’s oldest department stores and annually attracts 37 million visitors to the flagship shop on Boulevard Haussmann. In addition to the 57 outlets in France, they have five stores around the world, including in Indonesia and Dubai.

Galeries Lafayette has signed a lease with developers Codic to occupy a 9,000m2 shop, designed by architects Foster + Partners. Luxembourg is not the only new store to open in future. Galeries Lafayette is to open outlets in Doha (scheduled for autumn), Milan (2021), Istanbul (second store), Shanghai and Kuwait City (opening in 2019).
