Men in Luxembourg typically work 59 paid and unpaid hours per week.

That’s according to a report by the European Commission released on 1 March 2017 (see page 10, figure 5).

For women, the 63 hours is made up of 33 hours of paid work, 3 hours of commuting and 27 hours of household work a week.

Out of a total of 59 hours, men, on the other hand, invest 41 hours into paid work, 4 hours into commuting and have 14 hours of unpaid work.

Unpaid work includes housework and family care.

Women thus have 8 hours less of paid work, but 13 more hours of unpaid work.

In total, women have 4 hours less free time than men.
