The Golden Z Club Young Luxembourg was inaugurated on Saturday, when founders held a charter ceremony at the University of Luxembourg’s Blackbox.

“Building a global community of strong women by exchanging our fears and troubles but also our hopes and ambitions, will help each of us succeed but also empower young girls ascending the ladder into adulthood. And this is exactly what Golden Z Young Luxembourg want to achieve,” Golden Z president Sophie Rasqui said on Saturday.

University vice-rector for strategic projects Tonie Van Dam applauded the initiative and called for a student association to be established at the university. “We should start as early as possible to empower girls and young women. The start of Golden Z will contribute to this effort,” she said.

The charter ceremony marks the entrance of Golden Z Club members into Zonta International, a global association of professional women which has a presence in 66 countries and consultative status in the UN. The club falls within the jurisdiction of district 27, which includes 78 clubs and around 1,900 members in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland and Ukraine.

Among the first actions of the new club will be to coordinate efforts for Orange Week, a worldwide campaign to stop violence against women and girls. Among the events being hosted in Luxembourg will be an Orange March on 24 November, at 11am from the Place du Glacis, in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.
