So you’ve navigated the canals of the Speicherstadt district, marvelling at the impressive new Elbphilharmonie concert hall with its wave-like roof and glass façade… And you’ve meandered the museum mile, taking in the Kunsthalle and the Deichtorhallen and the three other galleries in between… Then you’ve checked out a few stores, such as Func. and Ply & Playground, for vintage industrial wares and modern classics…. Now you’ve finished soaking up the city’s charms, all that’s left to do is kick back, let your hair down and let the city’s bar scene entertain you.

Start the evening off with some al fresco dining at Alsterperle and enjoy the best views of the Alster with a decent beer in hand. Stay outside and head further south along the river to the Campari Lounge on top of the George Hotel, for more panoramic views of the waters below. If you want to pump up the volume slightly, Uebel & Gefährlich is the destination of choice. On the 4th floor of this Second World War high-rise bunker, feast your ears to a selection of gigs, or let your body give in to various DJs’ beats. Finish the evening with a nightcap at Clockers, a stylish speakeasy that distills its own gin in-house, creating inspired cocktails with said liquor. With no sign out front, keep your eyes peeled for the bell outside, and ring to be let into this secret lair.
