Christoph Bumb and Laurence Bervard, two former Wort journalists, said that their Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign will last for 5 weeks. They need €150,000 to get started--or 1000 people willing to pay €150, for which they would get a subscription for a year.

On Monday 6 November, the duo further announced that two freelancers, Kyra Fischbach from public radio 100,7 and Marie-Laure Rolland had joined the team. If the project takes off and becomes a success, they plan on having more employees and freelancers.

However, they have indicated, according to our sister outfit Paperjam, that the online magazine will launch in March. In the meantime, they will give a “taster” during the fundraising campaign, so that people get a glimpse of what is to come. Issues of national and international importance in politics, economics and society will be analysed.

Laurence Bervard explained that “our site will not be a news site which covers daily events.”

Bumb argued that the new magazine will not be linked to any party or shareholder other than the two founders. They do not count on any income through advertising, but might, in the mid-term, apply for state press aid.
