The government announced in a press release on Tuesday that the fire resistance of the floor material used in wing 3000 at the Lycée Michel Lucius in Limpertsberg was found to be less resistant than thought.

In addition to that, electrical installations in the ceiling cavities of the wing were found to “constitute a significant fire hazard”.

Sustainable development minister François Bausch, education minister Claude Meisch and public service minister Dan Kersch discussed the situation on Tuesday with the school’s management team before taking the measure to close the wing.

The government stressed that “the safety of all students and staff takes precedence over all other considerations”.

Wing 3000 is one of four wings in the school complex and it is the only one affected, the press release said.

The closure means a reorganisation of classes, so that the fourth and third grade students in both the Luxembourg and international streams will not have class during the mornings while the classes of first and second grade students will have no classes in the afternoon.

“This internal rescheduling will enable us to ensure the continuity of the majority of the classes affected,” the government said.
