Kenny died on 5 March, Peadar Carpenter, Ireland’s ambassador to Luxembourg, said in an emailed message to members of the Irish community on 3 April.

Carpenter wrote:

“Michael worked at the European Court of Justice from 1984 to 2011. Before coming to Luxembourg he lived in Dublin. Michael was, as far as we know, an only child. His father died when he was a child. His mother was also, apparently, an only child, and she died some years back in Luxembourg where she had come to live with Michael. We have notified the Gardaí [police force] of the death and they are endeavouring to trace any living relatives, but so far without any success.”

Members of Luxembourg’s Irish community have organised a memorial service. It will be held at St Alphonse Church on Friday 5 April at 1pm.

Readers with information about Kenny’s family can contact the Irish embassy.
