The 2014 European vote “was a nice election” and one that made him “fall in love with Europe again”, Jean-Claude Juncker stated on German radio over the weekend.

“But there will be no second election, because I will not compete again,” Juncker told Deutschlandfunk in an interview that aired on Sunday.

He also warned that the UK could effectively divide-and-conquer the EU27 in upcoming Brexit talks.

Juncker was prime minister of Luxembourg between 1995 and 2013. His five year term as head of the commission ends in October 2019.

Last year Juncker denied rumours that he would resign before his term finished.
