The jeweller's Kass-Jentgen, open since 1932, has to close its city centre shop due to exorbitant rents. Olivier Minaire

The jewellery shop, located at the corner of avenue de la Porte-Neuve and the Grand-Rue since 1932, is managed in the third generation by Isabelle Kass and her brother Julien.

“The rent has become exorbitant. The new rental lease amounts to €35,000 a month for a shop floor of 130m2, the first floor and cave. We can’t keep up, especially as fewer people come to the city centre. We all suffer from the construction works.”

Brother and sister have decided to take another step: “my brother will manage the shop in the commercial centre Auchan and I will take care of the shop in the Belle Etoile. We will also change the names on 1 October.”

After a while, the two shops will diversify their offer of brands.

Staff employed at the shop in the city centre were all on temporary contracts, which will not be renewed.
