Holidays are almost over in Luxembourg and the streets get busier: drivers should watch out for pupils going to school, says the ACL. Picture credit: Olivier Minaire (archives)

The Automobile Club of Luxembourg has urged adults this week to drive consciously as the new school year begins.

It will be the first day of school for many youngsters who often cannot evaluate the dangers of traffic.

In a press release issued on Wednesday 30 August, ACL advised drivers to slow down in the vicinity of schools and bus stops.

ACL offered the following advice to parents and their children:

  1. Even if a child sees the car, that doesn’t mean that the driver sees the child
  2. Children should wear visible clothes, preferably with reflective stickers
  3. Opt for the safest way to school, not the shortest
  4. Make sure that the child knows the way to school beforehand
  5. Allow enough time in the morning to get to school, to avoid stressful situations
