Three Luxembourgers have been hailed the fastest lawnmower drivers in the west. No, really. On Sunday 5 August, “Les’ Lux Pussies” became the first international team to win the UK’s lawnmower race in the English village of Five Oaks in West Sussex.
The Luxembourg trio--Bob Koedinger, Christian Kaiser and Jeff Wilmes--fought off 42 other competitors to claim victory in a 12-hour gruelling competition where modified lawnmowers are put through their paces in a race that took place at night.
The race was first thought up in 1973, perhaps unsurprisingly, in a pub. Fans of motors sports want to be able to participate in a race that was competitive, fun and didn’t break the bank.
