The website will offer urban shopkeepers the opportunity to showcase their wares and products through a virtual window and sell them directly online. Created by the economy ministry, the platform is run by an economic interest group and so far has 13 commercial regions onboard.

According to a press release published on Friday, retailers pay €500 per year to be featured on the online market place. They pay no commission on transactions.

At a ceremony to officialise the platform on 16 November, secretary of state for economy Francine Closener pointed out that just 9% of businesses in Luxembourg currently offer an internet solution, yet “Luxembourg residents are the European champions for online shopping”.

“Thanks to the LetzShop.lu platform, the economy ministry aims to alleviate this imbalance by facilitating the sale of online merchants,” Closener said.

Among the communes and towns backing the project are Luxembourg, Dudelange, Ettelbruck, Echternach, Remich, Grevenmacher, Diekirch, Wiltz, Clervaux, Mertert, Mersch, Pétange and Redange.

Shopkeepers interested in being part of the platform should email [email protected] for more information.
