A new location is urgently being sought for the body, currently located in London, in light of Britain’s departure from the EU.

On 30 September, the European Commission published its assessment of all eight offers received, on which a final decision will be reached on 20 November. Other cities in the running are Warsaw in Poland, Dublin in Ireland, Frankfurt in Germany, Paris in France, Prague in the Czech Republic, Brussels in Belgium and Vienna in Austria.

The Luxembourg proposal foresees a building on route d’Arlon, which can accommodate up to 244 people, and would be available, rent-free, from the end of 2018. This building would offer 4,200 m2 of usable space plus 800m2 of restaurant, common meeting rooms and breakout areas and the possibility for specific needs to be built into the building.

Delano’s sister publication, Paperjam, revealed the office in question to be the “Moonlight” building, being constructed by Félix Giorgetti and designed by architectural firm Jim Clemes.

In the Commission’s summary, Luxembourg was presented favourably, in terms of accessibility (direct flights to 13 EU capitals and transfers to a further 12 capitals), education facilities, health and business continuity. Luxembourg also proposes to set up a dedicated relocation point for EBA families and offered provisional rent-free office space for coordination staff during the transition phase. However, the report pointed out that the proposal lacked detail about IT and physical security measures within the proposed building.
