The 2017 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival kicked off in Győr, Hungary, on Sunday 23 July.

Competing for Luxembourg are:

  • Athletics: Lena Kieffer
  • Judo: Anetta and Klara Mosr
  • Cycling: Elisa Kockelmann, Nina Berton, Loïc Bettendorf, Jang Leyder and Jordi Wagner
  • Swimming: Emma Peters, Laura Vanderschrick, Rémi Fabiani, Mats Kemp, Bob Sauber and Yann Van Den Bossche

Kieffer was chosen to carry the flag during Sunday’s opening ceremony, Team Lëtzebuerg said in a press statement.

On Tuesday evening, Bettendorf, Leyder and Wagner competed in the men’s cycling time trials. Out of 97 participants, Leyder placed 41st with a time of 14:12.98, Bettendorff placed 47th with a time of 14:16.49 and Wagner finished 65th a time of 14:40.96. William Levy from Denmark came out on top with a time of 13:12.35 with Michel Heßmann of Germany and Gleb Karpenko of Estonia placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

2,500 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18, representing 50 nations, are competing in athletics, handball, tennis, basketball, judo, volleyball, cycling and canoeing.

The EYOF is a 7-day biennial event that began in 1990 with the aim to provide the opportunity for young athletes to get involved with the Olympic movement and learn about Olympic values and ideals.
